Alpha Phi Alpha is the pioneering intercollegiate fraternity, the very first of its kind founded 4th of December, 1906 at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. The Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity was established to provide vision and voice to African descents in Colleges across America and around the world.
The prestigious Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity served as a safe haven for African-Americans at Cornell who faced racial prejudice at both the educational and social level. The need for a strong bond of brotherhood between African-Americans necessitated the birth of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
Alpha Phi Alpha since its inception has been dedicated to helping young African-Americans develop good character, become outstanding citizens, and uplift humanity. Alpha Phi Alpha was set out to unify all worthy leading college African-American men under one banner through one bond of fraternal love.
Several civil right and human dignity fighters has emerged from the ranks of Alpha Phi Alpha since its inception. Amongst whom are Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., Edward Brooke, Martin Luther King, Jr., Thurgood Marshall, Andrew Young and W.E.B. DuBois who was a key player in the establishment of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
Alpha Phi Alpha remains a leading fraternity through several of their special initiatives programs, alpha foundations, leadership development and community service training for young African-American men in colleges across the United State and beyond.
